Locality Host for Greater Manchester Training Hub
The Greater Manchester Training Hub works with GP practices, Primary Care Networks and system partners across Greater Manchester to develop a skilled and sustainable primary care workforce.
The team supports practices to identify future workforce needs, develop career pathways and succession plans, and create opportunities for both current and future members of the primary care workforce.
Working in partnership with universities, colleges and training providers, the Training Hub coordinates student placements, supports work experience opportunities and provides pastoral support to learners while they are in practice.
The Training Hub website offers a range of educational and support programmes, practical resources to support practices, including the Apprenticeship Comparison Tool and the Placements Calculator, helping practices explore workforce development opportunities and maximise placement capacity.

Training Hub Support in Wigan
Deborah Holden is the locality Clinical Education Specialist for the Greater Manchester Training Hub team and is hosted by Wigan GP Federation. In her role she works closely with practices across the Wigan locality, she provides advice and practical support to help develop a resilient workforce that meets the needs of local communities. Her support includes:

• Pastoral support for learners in practice

Managing Type 2 Diabetes in the under 40's Education Sessions
Wigan Borough Federated Healthcare CIC and Health First ALW CIC have been commissioned by Wigan Integrated Care Board to upskill clinicians who perform diabetic annual reviews. The training enables clinicians to offer additional aspects of care to people diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes aged under 40, to reduce risk of complications secondary to diabetes.
The training sessions are aimed at GPs, Pharmacists, Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants and General Practice Assistants who carry out diabetic annual reviews, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to support a preventative approach.
This training upskills clinicians to identify patients with:

LOW-risk of developing foot problems - offering footcare advice that raises awareness of the importance of good footcare, followed by recording findings at the annual review.

Moderate or High-risk foot problems - referral into Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Podiatry pathways.
Managing Type 2Diabetes in the under 40's Education Sessions There will be 2 parts to the training as outlined below, both parts will need to be completed to count as Continual Professional Development and be awarded a certificate.
Part 1:
Theory Training Delivered by Health First
Part 2:
Practical Diabetic Foot Check Training delivered by Wigan Borough Federated Healthcare
The theory elements have been split dependant on role. Monitoring training sessions are aimed at Health Care Assistant’s, Nurse Associates and General Practice Assistant’s, while management sessions are aimed at Nurses & Pharmacists. Prescribing sessions will be aimed at GP’s, Pharmacists and Advanced Care Professionals.
The education will include:

Pre-conception advice identifying and managing Cardiovascular disease (CVD) including Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Sexual dysfunction.

How to identify and manage disengaged patients

How to perform a diabetic foot check
Diabetic Foot screening training package will include:

Face to face, in-person theory and practical elements.

Competency sign off.
